From Munich to Boston

The route: Boston-Cape Coral. About 2500 km, going through Boston, New York, Washington, Blue Ridge Mountains, Savannah, Orlando, Cape Coral.

We left Munich on 28.07. Everything went all right until we hit the immigration in Philadelphia airport. Lined up like cattle with hundreds of other people, we had to wait for two hours until we could pass the control (passports, fingerprints and photos as usual). The departure time for our connecting flight to Boston was approaching and we asked if we could somehow bypass the line so we wouldn't miss our flight, but to no avail. We ran like crazy to pick up our luggage, get it through costumes, and check it in again. When we finally got to the departure terminal, we had missed our flight. We got new tickets for a flight a couple of hours later. I started to worry about the drive to Franklin, and how late could we check in to the hotel?

In Boston fortunately, everything went smoothly. Our suitcases had arrived with an earlier flight and were waiting for us. The pick-up of the rental car went quickly and I got the GPS from Europe to work (fortunately I had brought a USB cable for charging it because the cigarette lighter power in the car didn't fit our European plug). The car was huge and the boys couldn't stop geeking out about all the gadgets in it (power opening of the doors and fold-out TV screens etc). Driving out of Boston Logan airport was vaguely familiar. We had done that several times in 1998. It always used to bring sweat to my brows. Now, 16 years later, everything was easier with the GPS. We took Williams tunnel and got on the I93. We arrived at 11 pm at the hotel. Dead tired.
