Exploring Savannah II

Wednesday 13.08

We walked to the Chippewa square (one of the garden squares) where Forrest Gump sat by a bus stop, telling his life story in the film.

We then went to the Davenport house which is a house from the early 1800's and had a guided tour. When the guide heard we lived in Munich and were from Denmark/Japan, we immediately turned to minor nobilities. The tour was very interesting, and we felt we were taken back in history, to a harsh time where many people died of dysentery and yellow fever.

After the Davenport house, we went to the city market, place for many tourist shops, cafes and restaurants. There was a nearby fountain where Michael could get wet.

We had lunch in a Japanese restaurant. I liked the decoration (notice the sailfish in the ceiling).

After lunch the kids went home. The softies couldn't take the heat anymore. Hiroko and I went on and walked down to the harbor to get some more cans of peanuts with interesting flavors from the Peanut Shop. The cans look very nice and are good presents. On the way home we passed by a historical graveyard with graves of people who died in the revolution. We then went on to the Savannah coffee roasters cafe and had some really good iced latte.
